Tooth-Coloured Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are used to repair teeth affected by cavities, chips, small fractures, or worn restorations. We use tooth-coloured materials designed to blend naturally with your smile.

Dr. Romy Pabla takes a gentle, thorough approach to every filling. She explains exactly what to expect before getting started, uses topical numbing before freezing, and works carefully to ensure you're comfortable throughout the procedure.

What Is a Dental Filling?

A dental filling is used to restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay (a cavity), a crack, or wear. The decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is removed, and the space is filled with a restorative material — in our case, tooth-coloured composite resin — to restore the tooth's shape, function, and appearance.

Signs You May Need a Filling

  • Tooth sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods and drinks
  • A visible hole or dark spot on a tooth
  • Toothache or pain when biting down
  • A rough or jagged feeling when your tongue runs over a tooth
  • A lost or broken old filling
  • No symptoms at all — many cavities are only found on X-rays

This is why regular checkups matter — catching a small cavity early means a simple filling. Leaving it untreated can lead to a larger cavity, infection, and the need for a crown or root canal. Read more about how often you should get a dental checkup.

Why Tooth-Coloured Fillings?

😁

Natural Appearance

Composite resin is matched to your tooth colour, designed to be discreet and natural-looking in your smile.

🔗

Bonds to the Tooth

Composite bonds directly to your tooth structure, providing good support and requiring less removal of healthy tooth material.

🌡️

Less Sensitivity

Composite resin doesn't expand and contract with temperature the way metal does, reducing sensitivity over time.

What to Expect During a Filling Appointment

1

Examination & X-Ray

Dr. Pabla confirms the extent of the cavity and discusses the treatment plan with you before anything begins.

2

Numbing

Topical numbing gel is applied first, followed by a local anaesthetic injection. We take our time to ensure you're fully comfortable before proceeding.

3

Decay Removal

The decayed portion of the tooth is gently removed using a dental drill or laser. Only the damaged material is taken — healthy tooth structure is preserved.

4

Filling Placement

The composite resin is applied in layers, shaped to match your tooth, and hardened with a curing light. The colour is matched to your natural tooth.

5

Bite Check & Polish

Dr. Pabla checks your bite and polishes the filling so it feels smooth and comfortable. Most fillings are completed in a single appointment.

Sensitivity After a Filling — What's Normal?

It's completely normal to experience some sensitivity after a filling, especially to hot, cold, or sweet foods and drinks. This usually settles within a few days to two weeks as your tooth adjusts. If sensitivity is severe or lasts longer than a few weeks, contact us — it may need a simple adjustment.

  • Mild sensitivity for a few days is normal and expected
  • Avoid very hot or cold foods for 24–48 hours after your appointment
  • If your bite feels off, call us — we can adjust the filling quickly
  • Severe or worsening pain after a filling is not normal and should be assessed

Preventing Future Cavities

The best filling is one you never need. Here's how to protect your teeth between visits:

  • Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste — especially before bed
  • Floss daily to remove plaque between teeth where your brush can't reach
  • Limit sugary drinks, juice, and frequent snacking
  • Drink water — especially fluoridated tap water
  • Visit us every 6 months for a checkup and cleaning
  • Ask Dr. Pabla about sealants if you or your child is cavity-prone

If a tooth has a large cavity, a crack, or has had a root canal, a filling alone may not be enough to restore it. In these cases, Dr. Pabla may recommend a dental crown instead to fully protect the tooth.
